How do I get to Socotra?

Do I need a visa for Socotra?
Yes, a visa is required for all visitors to Socotra. We will arrange this on your behalf. You'll usually need to provide a passport copy and a photo, and the visa is collected upon arrival.
What is the best time to visit Socotra?
The ideal time to visit Socotra is from October to April. This period avoids the hot, windy monsoon season (May-September) and the peak rainy season (December). February and March are particularly excellent for pleasant weather and vibrant landscapes.
What kind of accommodation is available?
Our tours primarily utilize eco-campsites, offering an immersive natural experience. These camps provide comfortable tents with basic facilities, often with shared toilets and showers with fresh water. Limited hotel options are available in the capital, Hadibo, for those who prefer them.
What should I pack for a Socotra trip?
Essentials include lightweight, breathable clothing, long sleeves and pants for sun protection, comfortable hiking shoes, water shoes, swimwear, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, high SPF sunscreen), and a reusable water bottle. Modest clothing is recommended for visiting local villages. We will provide you with a full packing list.
Can I use my phone or access the internet on Socotra?
Network coverage is limited outside of Hadibo, and internet access is slow and primarily available in the capital. We offer Starlink wifi for an additional fee. Whilst we encourage you to embrace the digital detox and enjoy the island's natural beauty, but we also totally get that you want to share your experience with friends and family back home!
What currency should I bring? Are there ATMs?
There are no ATMs on Socotra. It's essential to bring enough cash for your personal expenses and any tour payments (preferably US Dollars or Euros). All meals and accommodation are included in our tour packages.
What is the local religion on Socotra?
The predominant religion on Socotra Island is Islam. The local Socotri people are primarily Sunni Muslim. Visitors should be respectful of local customs and traditions.
What is the recommended dress code for tourists?
While Socotra is relatively relaxed, it's part of Yemen, a conservative Islamic country. We recommend modest clothing, especially when visiting Hadibo town or local villages. For women, this means covering knees and shoulders, and a light headscarf is appreciated in villages and public areas (though not strictly required at campsites or beaches). For men, long trousers are generally preferred over shorts in public spaces. Swimwear is acceptable at beaches and for swimming.
What kind of food is provided on the tour?
Our tours provide three fresh and delicious meals daily. Food is generally simple but plentiful. Expect fresh fish and seafood along the coast, and sometimes chicken or goat in the interior. Meals typically include rice, flatbread, and a variety of vegetables (fresh or canned). Breakfasts often consist of flatbread, spreads (honey, jam), fresh fruit, and sometimes eggs. We can cater to dietary requirements like vegetarianism or allergies if informed in advance. Bottled water and spiced tea are always provided. Alcohol is not available on the island, but you are welcome to bring your own.
